The Latest Construction Tech + How It Helps Your Project

Every construction project comes with its own set of challenges. Tight spaces. Complex layouts. Safety-sensitive environments. At ACME, we’re always looking for ways to make the work faster, more precise, and safer for our crews and our clients.

That’s why we keep investing in the latest construction technology, not just for the sake of having new tools, but because the right technology can make a real difference on the jobsite. From cutting down layout time to improving welding mobility, these advancements help our teams stay efficient and keep your project on track.

Here are three areas that matter to our clients on almost every job, and the tools we use behind the scenes to deliver on them.

1. Access: Getting the Work Done in Tight or Hard-to-Reach Areas

On certain projects, especially those with limited access or tight working conditions, having a more mobile welding option can make the work go smoother. That’s where the Elevate™ SLi Battery Powered Welder comes in. This compact, battery-operated unit from Lincoln Electric gives our teams the flexibility to weld wherever the job calls for: no generator, no long cable runs, and no waiting for power hookups.

How this benefits your project

  • Less setup time when access is in a remote location

  • A cleaner workspace without cords running through active areas

  • Fewer obstacles underfoot, which reduces trip hazards

  • Quieter work, which is helpful in active facilities

We still use traditional welders for the majority of our work, but when a project presents access challenges, this tool helps us deliver the same level of workmanship with greater mobility and less disruption to your facility.

2. Layout Accuracy: Getting It Right the First Time

Accurate layout is one of the biggest drivers of project success. When the layout is right, equipment fits correctly, structures align the way they should, and the project moves forward without costly rework.

To support this, our field layout teams use a Hilti PLT 400 Digital Total Station, which allows a single operator to perform layout tasks with exceptional precision. The tool’s self-leveling and self-calibrating features help keep measurements consistent throughout the day.

How this benefits your project

  • Higher layout accuracy = fewer surprises during steel, equipment, or anchor bolt installation

  • Reduced rework, which keeps your schedule and budget intact

  • More efficient manpower since one operator can complete a full day of layout quickly

  • Direct connection to digital plans, minimizing interpretation errors

We know precision matters to your project, and this technology helps our crews put every point exactly where it needs to be, the first time.

3. Safer Concrete Modification: Knowing What’s Inside Before We Cut

Anytime we drill, saw, or core into concrete, safety is the first consideration. Many industrial facilities have embedded features, rebar, post-tension cables, conduit, or live wire, and damaging one can cause serious safety issues, unexpected downtime, or major repair costs.

That’s why we use the Hilti PS 1000 X-Scan Concrete Scanner, which provides clear 2D and 3D images of what’s inside the slab up to 12 inches deep.

How this benefits your project

  • Identifies obstructions before cutting, reducing the risk of hitting critical infrastructure

  • Protects your facility’s structural integrity

  • Prevents costly damage to electrical or process systems

  • Helps crews choose safe drilling and anchor locations

This technology gives us inside insight. It helps us plan smarter, work safer, and keep your facility protected from unnecessary damage or downtime.

Tech in Action: Real-World Efficiency from the Field

Every piece of technology we use is carefully chosen based on its ability to improve field performance and client outcomes.

Tools like the Elevate SLi welder are ideal for projects where power sources are limited, while the PLT 400 helps streamline layout work on complex, multi-level structures — helping our teams stay efficient and precise from start to finish. And before any concrete modification begins, our scanners ensure the space is safe to cut or drill.

Each of these tools adds a layer of confidence and efficiency, not just for our teams, but for our clients who depend on projects being completed safely and on schedule.

Why This Matters for Your Next Project

The technology itself is impressive, but what really matters is the impact it has on your project:

  • More accurate layouts mean less rework and fewer delays.

  • Battery-powered welding improves mobility and reduces setup time for remote, small jobs.

  • Smarter concrete scanning prevents accidental damage and keeps schedules intact.

At ACME, these tools are part of a bigger philosophy, combining craftsmanship with smart innovation. Through our design-build approach, we integrate smart tools, from automatic layout systems to battery-powered welders and advanced concrete scanners, directly into the way we plan, design, and execute every project. The result is a construction process that’s more precise, predictable, and productive, delivering craftsmanship that stands the test of time — powered by innovation that helps us build better every day.
